Prayers for Oklahoma

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop and look fear in the face…we must do that which we think we cannot.” – First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt

Today, we pray for our fellow Americans in the Midwest and, especially those in Oklahoma, who were devastated by a mile-wide tornado that stayed on the ground in excess of 45 minutes, leaving carnage and destruction in its wake. We know at least 51 individuals were killed by this tornado, including 20 children, whose remains lie beneath the rubble that was once their elementary school. We pray for the first responders — for their continued strength, both physically and emotionally — for the families who do not know if their loved ones are among the dead, and for those who lost their homes. There are many links in USA Today that will lead you to organizations to which you can donate and help your fellow Americans.

FFYRs in South Carolina This Past Weekend Help on the SC-01 Congressional Campaign!

Breaking records…

This past weekend, the DCYRs and our own FFYRs traveled to Charleston, South Carolina during the 72 GOTV push to campaign on behalf of SC-01 Republican Congressional candidate, Mark Sanford. On Day 1, FFYRs broke the record for most calls made in a single day AND, within 24 hours, 19 YRs contacted over 10,000 voters!

SC-Sanford

YRs were like the postman: they braved the weather and walked door to door in rain and signwaved! The people of SC-01 realized the importance of Sanford winning and their support is an absolute rejection of former Speaker Pelosi’s efforts to elect herself Speaker of the House again. Pelosi has dumped $1 million into Sanford’s opponent’s campaign because, if the Democrat wins, Ms. Pelosi is on her way to holding that shiny gavel once again. All voters contacts were VERY supportive and everyone with whom the FFYRs came into contact were standing with Sanford.

FFYR Chairwoman, Peret Pass, stated, “I am so proud of the FFYRs for taking charge to continue to put our country on the RIGHT track. We could not have a better team and I am certain that SC-01 will stay RED this Tuesday.”

For more on the importance of the SC-01 race, visit: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/05/05/ppp-sc1-moving-in-sanfords-directionThe article describes how important this congressional race is to the Democrats so donors will see that a House Majority can be achieved by the Democrats and continue to open their wallets. But, by the FFYRs helping in this election, we are putting our fingers in the dike to prevent a potential flood of Democrat campaign funding into competitive races nationwide this election cycle.

FFYR is, once again, leading the charge against Democrat victories and ensuring a RED Congress for the betterment of the entire nation! That starts with SC-01’s Congressional race this past weekend and will continue into the 2014 mid-term elections!

From the FFYRs…
“The Sanford Campaign was very professional and organized.   On a rainy Sunday afternoon, every station was manned for the GOTV effort.   I am proud to say that Seminole YRs were counted among those fighting for our future.”

Matthew McMillan, Seminole County Young Republicans

“After seeing nothing but personal attacks and money being poured in from the Democratic political machine at the highest levels, I felt motivated to head on up to South Carolina with fellow Young Republicans from across my home state of Florida. I felt encouraged by the overwhelming positive feedback from Low Country’s citizens and their unwavering support of Mark Sanford. I am honored to have helped play a role on the ground and to have met a leader and personable as he.” Steve Avila, Palm Beach Young Republicans

“It never ceases to amaze me how just a few hard working young people can make a real impact on a race like this one. What we did this weekend could impact this nation.” James Nealis, Jacksonville Young Republicans

The overwhelming response, from the people I contacted in SC-01, was that they want Mark Sanford to be their next congressman. Mark Sanford is the right candidate to represent SC-01 and I was honored to be able to work on his campaign. Kelly Phelan, Seminole County Young Republicans

I felt that our combined, heartfelt efforts could be a game changer in this election. I am proud to have stood with YR’s to keep this seat in the GOP column. Jen Mitchell, Jacksonville Young Republicans

Demand the Facts on Bengazi

demand-the-facts-v2For months, the American People have been denied a clear story on what happened at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

House Republicans are determined to get the truth on Benghazi – which is why we’ve released a 67 page report from Chairmen of five House Committees detailing direct contradictions between Sec. of State Hillary Clinton’s testimony to Congress and the evidence.

From the report: “The administration perpetuated a deliberately misleading and incomplete narrative that the attacks evolved from a political demonstration by minimizing the role played by al Qaeda-affiliated entities and other groups.”

Americans deserve a clear explanation of what happened, but we also owe it to ourselves to ensure this never happens again.

Flight Delayed?

flightCALL THE WHITE HOUSE AT 202-456-1111

President Obama is at it again. As if playing politics with White House tours wasn’t enough, the Obama Administration is now doing the same thing with airline travel. The Federal Aviation Administration is now planning to furlough 47,000 workers throughout the rest of the fiscal year.

The absence of these workers could delay flights in major airports 3 1/2 hours, and will create massive problems for travelers and shippers this summer.

Sign the petition telling President Obama it is unacceptable to play politics with airline travel!

Earth Day

“Optimism is a good characteristic, but if carried to an excess, it becomes foolishness. We are prone to speak of the resources of this country as inexhaustible; this is not so.”

– President Theodore Roosevelt, Seventh Annual Message to Congress, December 3, 1907

Florida Federation of Young Republicans,

Today we celebrate the Earth and all Her glory. We also use this day to remind the Democrats and liberal, mainstream media that they do not own a cornerstone of environmentalism and conservation of our natural resources. Republicans, too, understand the need to conserve our resources. However, both the environment and a booming economy are essential to our nation’s future and one cannot be sacrificed for the other.

As Floridians we know the two go hand-in-hand: people from across the globe visit our beautiful beaches on both coasts annually and bring their money with them to spend and stimulate our economy! Below are a few images of various chapters across our state working to clean up, spruce up, and show off Florida’s beauty!

If conservation is something you’d like more information on, please visit ConservAmerica, whose mission states:

“ConservAmerica was founded under the name Republicans for Environmental Protection in 1995. Our mission is to restore the Republican Party’s great conservation tradition, which is grounded in the timeless conservative ethic of stewardship. We are working to restore conservation and environmental stewardship as fundamental elements of the Republican Party’s vision for America.”

Stewardship of our environment and of our economy is the way to get America, and the Earth, on a path to prosperity for posterity!

Prayers for Boston

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Boston community and all the marathoners who took part in the Boston Marathon, a race that should’ve been a great milestone race for many of them. However, due to the cowardice of one or more terrorists, this day will forever be a day of carnage and destruction.

We thank the first-responders and are reminded of the resilience our country by the images of the paramedics, firefighters, and police officers running toward the blast and its horrific aftermath. We are also inspired by those runners who kept running through the Finish Line to local hospitals to donate blood. In America, when blood is shed, we donate blood. That’s what separates America from the rest of the world: our response and our responders.

In the coming days, answers will be brought to light and justice will be brought to bear upon those responsible for at least two deaths and over 100 injuries. During that time, we pray for those dealing with this tragedy – the marathoners, the spectators, the loved ones who lost a family member, the first responders, and the Intelligence Community – that they might know a sense of calm amidst a raging storm so answers can be found quickly and responsibly.

On the Passing of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

ironlady

October 13, 1925 – April 8, 2013

This morning, after suffering a stroke, the United Kingdom’s first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, has passed away. While we know she is in a better place, free from pain, free from a relentless press, and reunited with her American conservative counterpart, President Reagan, she will be missed by many on both sides of the Atlantic for her fearless conservatism.

For us, personally, Margaret Thatcher is an icon not only of conservative principles but of the fact that a woman can be a conservative leader. Today, in the United States, we are blessed with many strong female conservative leaders from Attorney General Pam Bondi to Governor Nikki Haley to Mayor Mia Love. But Prime Minister Thatcher broke through that glass ceiling and did it with grace, poise, and a coy smile.

The images of President Reagan and Prime Minister Thatcher on the White House grounds, chasing dogs, riding the golf cart, or simply talking are heart-warming images for any conservative in the world. Wouldn’t you have loved to have been a part of that conservation, even as a fly on the wall?

Margaret Thatcher: thank you for choosing conservatism, thank you for choosing to lead, thank you for choosing to be a wife, mother, scientist, lawyer and showing a woman can have it all, and, mostly, thank you for standing up while others remained seated. You will be missed. But I certainly hope this morning President Reagan greeted you on his golf cart and said, “Hop in Maggie! I’ve got a lot to show you!”

Sincerely,

Peret Pass, Chairwoman

Happy 500th Birthday to the Sunshine State!

Still looking GREAT!

Happy 500th FloridaToday marks the 500th birthday of our great state, Florida. Juan Ponce de Leon landed on the Pacific coast of Florida in 1513 and established what would become America’s oldest city: St. Augustine.

Many Americans and others in the world believe America’s history is housed in the New England states and, while we don’t dispute there are many fantastic pieces of history in those states, it’s important for the world to know – and for us to spread the word – that Florida lays claim to the oldest established city in America.

St. Augustine today is home to Fort Matanzas National Monument, Castillo de San Marcos, The Alligator Farm, which was founded in 1894, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, which has been standing since 1874, Flagler College, built originally in the late 1800s as the Ponce de Leon hotel and ranked by the Princeton Review as one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses, and The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, purported to be the oldest wooden schoolhouse in the United States. Not too shabby for not being in New England!

Smithsonian Magazine has also just recently ranked St. Augustine as one of the best small towns in America to go exploring.

So raise a glass (and/or a piece of cake) to our beautiful state! Here’s to 500 more years of sunshine and prosperity!

Viva Florida!
